The Cucumber Man (1994)
This follows Henry Pratt’s life from the disintegration of his journalistic career in 1960 to the ripe old age of 59 in 1994. His love-life is more tangled than ever, he attempts to write a novel and become an M.P, but it’s the eponymous cucumbers that dominate his life, whether at the ill-fated Cucumber Marketing Board, or in his job in a market garden, or even when he’s involved in Overseas Aid in far-off Peru. There must be more to his life than cucumbers. But is there?
